OUR STORY

Built by our community. Here for our children.

CASA of Freestone & Limestone Counties grew from a shared commitment: children in our rural communities deserve local, consistent advocacy.

A local program takes shape

From 2019 to 2022, Voices for Children in Brazos County served Freestone and Limestone Counties. With the two rural counties more than an hour and a half from its main office, the organization began conversations with CASA volunteers, community members, and the courts about establishing an independent local CASA program.

A local steering committee and board laid the foundation in 2022. With Ashley Gomez as Executive Director, CASA of Freestone & Limestone Counties began accepting cases in 2023.

Our first chapter

In the first few months of operation in 2023, the program was assigned 19 cases, serving 33 children. These early milestones marked the beginning of a locally rooted commitment to children in Freestone and Limestone Counties.

From our first cases to lasting impact

Our founding story was only the beginning. Each year, local volunteers, staff, board members, and community partners have continued the work of standing beside children and strengthening their connections.

FY2024 · Local advocacy in action

The program served 57 children in 34 cases. Volunteers and staff attended 126 hearings, and volunteers donated 1,049.1 hours. The annual report recorded 9 children reunited with family, 5 adoptions, and 4 children permanently placed with relatives.

FY2025 · Showing up for children

CASA served 53 children in 32 cases, with 131 hearings attended by volunteers and staff and 1,157 volunteer hours donated. The report recorded 19 children reunited with family and 12 adoptions.

FY2026 · Changing children’s stories together

CASA served 47 children, and 16 children reached permanency: 4 reunified with family, 8 were adopted, and 4 were permanently placed with relatives. Staff and volunteers completed 2,845 advocacy activities and contributed 1,841.06 service hours.
