History

From 2019 to 2022, Voices for Children (Brazos County) served Freestone & Limestone Counties.   In 2022, VFC, recognizing the unique challenges of serving two rural counties which were more than 1.5 hours away from its main office, initiated conversations with CASA volunteers, local community members, and the courts to launch Limestone and Freestone Counties as an independent CASA program.

A Steering Committee was organized in May of 2022, and in September 2022, a Board of Trustees was seated.  In January, 2023, Ashley Gomez was hired as Executive Director, and the program started taking cases in February, 2023.  In the first few months of operation 2023, CASA of Freestone & Limestone Counties has been assigned to 19 cases, serving 33 children.
